A friend and her parents first brought me to the Old World in 1985, I was 13 years old. This was their favorite restaurant in Citrus County. They ate here for a few times a week for as long as I have known them. Through the years my family and friends have been enjoying dinners here as well. While I have tried other things on the menu including the schnitzel, prime rib, fried shrimp, and other moist and delectable items, my favorite is Maria's liver and onions smothered in bacon. Over the last few years my friends' parents have both passed on, but like me she still brings her family to her parent's favorite restaurant. While the décor is dated, the restaurant is very clean and well maintained. You can always count on the food being fresh and delicious. Prices are very affordable and the food quantity is abundant. For just $22 total my mom and I each had soup, salad, liver and onions, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Yes you get soup, salad, and bread as part of your meal for an already inexpensive price.

Drove over to Old World from Bushnell on a Sunday night. It is situated on 41 just south of Floral City on the west side. The place was not quite half full but close. We had the soup (bean soup and chicken noodle), which was pretty good. My wife had the Kassler (smoked pork chop), rotkohl (red cabbage) and spaetzle (little dumpling noodles). These were fine, not overly cooked. The spaetzle did not seem fresh. I had the German Combo Platter which consisted of two wurst (knockwurst and a bratwurst) and a Kassler chop, fries, and sauerkraut. These were good as well, not great. All in all, a decent meal. Price: worth the meal, not overly pricey. Service: Ours was attentive and there when you needed something. I saw another table that was having trouble getting their meal in a timely manner. Going back: probably at some point

We have been discussing eating here for quite some time, as my husband's mother and father used to frequent this establishment quite often. We were looking forward to the Prime Rib... Unfortunately, it is no longer offered as a regular menu item since the quality was not consistent; however, it will be offered as a specialty item in the future. We were still very pleased with the quality of the food. The soup bar (chicken soup) was fantastic (All you could eat)! The salad was fresh and the T-bone steaks were cooked to perfection! We would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a home cooked German meal in a family setting. Full bar available, btw... Little, bitty issues, here and there, prevent me from giving 5 stars....don't let that keep you away from a fantastic German meal in a clean, vintage setting! We will definitely return!

Always a pleasant surprise to find a gem like this in such a rural setting. We all enjoyed our food. My youngest son had the frog legs whcih were very tasty. My oldest son had the veal schnitzel (awesome). The wife had the prime rib (perfect). While I enjoyed the sausage platter with krout. Everything was delicious. Killians on tap was a plus. Homemade soups and bread available self serve prior to your meal was nice. We will be back.

Good old fashioned food. We had driven by many times over the years and wondered about what kind of German food could be served out here in the middle of nowhere. Finally, we made the special journey to find out. I haven't been in a restaurant that reminded me so much of my childhood since, well, since I was a child! Old fashioned booths with teal backs and wrought iron on the top of the chair backs greet you as you walk in, and then you notice that the wait staff's shirts match the seat backs. Table tops are reminiscent of the panelling found on the walls of many 1970s era houses. The service was very friendly and helpful, if not able to explicitly answer my questions as to what was the better choice of three that I gave her. I was able to ascertain that the meats are fresh, but the duck and seafood were previously frozen. Not my preference, but all too common. Next time I will get the beef liver, but tonight I had the German combo consisting of a knockwurst, a brat, and a smoked cured pork chop. Before the main course came we were directed to a center island with two soups and fresh bread to which you help yourself. The side salad was typical, but the sausages were pretty good, and I was able to eat the sauerkraut without that pain that happens in the sides of your jaw. My wife had chicken schnitzel, which was basically fried chicken. My draught was cold and her cabernet came to the rim, ala 1980s bowling alleys. Good stuff. Prices were good, $40 for both of us with drinks. We will go back to sample some other dishes that you just don't see that often. You should give it a try.

Certainly a fave of the traditionalist generation. Drove by the place for a couple of decades before deciding to stop on a Sunday . Soup and bread are homemade? Liver and onions pretty darn good next time I'll go for the roasted duck

Decided on this little place for date night because of the Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint! Husband had the prime rib, the waiter advised us that they were out of rare and med-rare but he went ahead and ordered asking the waiter to have the chef do his best. The "small" cut of prime rib was large and on the pink side of medium, tasty and very tender. Some of the best prime rib we have ever had! I order the special, broiled haddock, which was excellent! We had the homemade chicken noodle soup, bread, coleslaw and a salad that came with the meal and a baked potato ... we were stuffed and opted to take a piece of very good looking carrot cake home. Probably the only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the bagged salad that all of the restaurants are using these days. The service couldn't have been better!!

Best Prime Rib EVER. PERIOD! I have eaten prime rib in many places and in different states. This prime rib was absolutely delicious! Other than the standard potato, I wasn't a fan of the side dishes offered (apple sauce, cole slaw or something else I don't remember).

If you could instantly be family, this would be the place where it happens. As with my review for The Catfish Place in Apopka, FL, this is one of two exceptional restaurants in Florida. These people believe in service and they believe in food that they would eat themselves. There were eight of us having a Christmas get together and we planned early to go to this restaurant. It was very busy, but accommodating still. I got Spätzle and sausage, something I'd cooked for my parents but never had outside an Amish-style restaurant in Pennsylvania. It was as perfect as a high cholesterol meal can be. Everyone in our family group was happy with their food and the staff made us feel as though we were part of their family. It's rare to find a place that reminds you how wonderful life (and family) can be and takes you back to sitting at grandma's table in anticipation of the wonders from the stove, but Old World Restaurant was that place. People from Tampa should get out and take a visit up U.S. 41 to the middle of nowhere. Your tummy will thank you.
